The Pillars of My Strength: Honoring My Family’s Love and Support in My Diabetes Journey
Living with type 1 diabetes is not a solitary journey. Behind every moment of resilience and strength is a foundation built by love, care, and unwavering support. For me, that foundation is my family. My First Blog is dedicated to honoring the extraordinary people who have stood by me every step of the way as I navigated life with type 1 diabetes.
My Mom: My Best Friend and My First Advocate
When I was diagnosed, my mom didn’t just read about injections; she tried them on herself first. She wanted to feel what I would feel, to understand my pain so she could support me better. My mom is my best friend, my confidant, and my greatest companion. She’s the first person I turn to when life feels heavy, and she always knows how to make me smile. Her selflessness and bravery have shaped how I approach my challenges—with love and determination. There are not enough words that could ever convey who my mom is. She is a person who embodies true & unconditional love. I know that everyone says they have the best mom, but for sure, they have not met mine.
My Dad: The Provider with Endless Strength
My dad is a man of quiet heroism. He worked tirelessly, taking on every job he could to ensure I had access to the care and supplies I needed. His sacrifices are immeasurable, and his strength inspires me to keep pushing forward. Even when he and I have different views in life, I know that without his support for me as a child, I would not be the person I am. He spoiled me with love and compassion.
My Big Sister: My Diabetes Study Partner
When I got my first insulin pump, my sister stepped in as my guide. She dove into research, learned everything about the pump, and was by my side every step of the way. Her patience and dedication made that transition so much smoother for me. She’s more than a sister—she’s a partner in this journey, someone who reminds me I’m never alone. And she gave me the best two gifts I could have prayer for, her two sons, my heart & soul walking in human form. For them, I wake up every day and keep on trying to be the best example they can ask for.
My Big Brother: My Care Partner and Comforter
My brother has a heart as big as his protective nature. He’s my care partner, the one who monitors my hypoglycemia and shows up when I need him most. Whether it’s a late-night hypo or a bad day, he’s there to sit with me, comfort me, and remind me that I’m loved. His calm presence during the toughest moments has been my anchor. He is my confidant & my best friend. Life would be tasteless without him in it.
